Check if a Device Works on CommsMobile (Compatibility & Blocked-Device Check)

Published:

Overview

Since Telstra's 3G network closed (28 October 2024), a phone needs 4G/5G and VoLTE to make calls and reach 000 on CommsMobile. This guide shows how to confirm a device is supported and what to do if it is blocked. To turn VoLTE or Wi-Fi Calling on, see Voice Calling Features: VoLTE & VoWiFi.

Steps to Check Device Compatibility

  1. Find the device IMEI — dial *#06# on the handset to display it.
  2. Open the Telstra Wholesale Device Capability Checker (3G Network Closure / Blocked Devices Checker).
  3. Enter the first 8 digits of the IMEI.
  4. The checker confirms whether the device is blocked or has limitations.
  5. If the device is blocked, replace it with a 4G/5G handset that supports the required bands — especially B28 (700 MHz).

If a Device Is Blocked or Limited

  1. Update the device software/firmware to the latest version.
  2. Confirm VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling are switched on — see Voice Calling Features: VoLTE & VoWiFi for the steps.
  3. If calls still drop or the device stays blocked, upgrade to a fully compatible 4G/5G handset.
