CommsMobile Pooling Plans 2.0

Published:

Overview

CommsMobile Pooling Plans 2.0 are SIM-only mobile services offered through CommsChannel reseller partners on the Telstra Wholesale Mobile Network.

Pooling plans allow multiple mobile services within the same organisation to share a single monthly data pool. All services in the pool draw from the same shared data allowance.

These plans include:

  • Unlimited national voice calls

  • Unlimited national SMS and MMS (excluding video MMS)

  • Shared monthly mobile data pool

  • Optional international roaming bolt-ons

  • A single pool supports up to 300 services

  • Pools can include any combination of Voice and Data Only services

  • Pooling plans do not support data banking

  • Network coverage reaches approximately 98.8% of the Australian population

📝 IDD is not included on 2.0-P-4G-S. Every other Voice & Data Pooling plan above includes IDD — see International Calling below.

Each service contributes its plan's data allowance to the shared pool. The pool total equals the sum of all services' plan allowances.

Data Only Pooling Plans

Data Only services are designed for tablets, routers, and data-only devices sharing from the pool.

Data Only Restrictions

  • No voice calls, SMS, or MMS

  • No International Direct Dial (IDD)

  • No international roaming

International Calling (IDD)

CommsMobile 2.0 Voice & Data plans include Unlimited International Direct Dial (IDD) calls, SMS and MMS (excluding video MMS), with mobile numbers included for all destinations:

  • China

  • France

  • Germany

  • Greece

  • Hong Kong

  • India

  • Ireland

  • Malaysia

  • New Zealand

  • Singapore

  • South Korea

  • Thailand

  • United Kingdom

  • United States (USA)

  • Vietnam

  • Included on all Voice & Data Pooling plans except 2.0-P-4G-S, which does not include IDD

  • Mobile numbers are included for every destination listed

  • Video MMS is not included

  • All other international destinations are Pay-As-You-Go — refer to the International Rate Card

  • Data Only plans do not include IDD

Data Pooling — How It Works

  • All services in the pool consume from the same shared data allowance

  • The pool total = sum of all active services' plan data allowances

  • Maximum 300 services per pool — additional pools required beyond this limit

  • A pool can only contain services belonging to one end organisation — aggregation across multiple customers is not permitted

  • Data resets each billing cycle — there is no data banking or rollover on pooling plans

  • Any combination of Voice and Data Only plans can coexist in a single pool

When a Service Leaves a Pool

  • Any data the service contributed to the pool is forfeited

  • The service must move to a Standalone plan to receive its own individual data allowance

Data Bolt-Ons

If the shared data pool is exhausted, all services lose data access. No excess charges apply.

10GB Domestic Pool Bolt-On

  • 10GB added to the shared pool

  • Expires inline with the underlying plan billing cycle (resets on the 27th)

  • Maximum 5 bolt-ons per billing cycle

  • Can be applied manually via the portal or automatically via Auto Top-Up

Auto Top-Up

  • Automatically adds a 10GB pool bolt-on when the pool is exhausted

  • Must be enabled on the pool — disabled by default

  • Counts toward the 5-bolt-on-per-cycle limit

Roaming Bolt-On Packs

Roaming Behaviour

  • Pay-As-You-Go roaming is disabled — a roaming pack is required to use services internationally

  • When a customer arrives in a supported destination, they receive a welcome SMS

  • Customers reply to that SMS to activate a travel pack — no portal login required

  • Additional packs can be activated by replying to the same SMS

Roaming packs are available in 69 supported destinations worldwide.

⚠️ Roaming packs are not available on Data Only plans.

Plan Management

CommsMobile Pooling Plans 2.0 operate on a fixed billing calendar. The rules below apply to all plan activity within a pool.

Billing Cycle

The billing cycle runs from the 28th to the 27th of each month. All plan inclusions and pool usage are measured within this period. Bills are issued at the start of each billing month.

Plan Activation

When a new service is added to a pool mid-cycle, charges are prorated based on remaining days until the 27th. The service's data contribution to the pool is also prorated.

Plan Changes

Plan changes can be made two ways: self-service in the Comms Portal on the 27th of each month, or by email request to Comms Channel support at any other time. See How to Change a Plan on a CommsMobile 2.0 Service for the complete process, billing impact, and rules for pooled services.

  • Self-service changes on the 27th take effect from the 28th, are irreversible once submitted, and are billed under normal parameters — no double charge.

  • Mid-month changes are requested by email to helpdesk@commschannel.com.au — this replaces the previous Account Manager escalation process, now that the mid-month process is built and documented — and are billed at a fixed full-month rate for both the outgoing and incoming plan.

  • One self-service change is permitted per billing cycle on the 27th; mid-month requests have no system limit, but each carries its own full-month double charge.

  • If the service is part of a Pool and the target plan is Standalone, it must be removed from the pool first — see Create & Manage a Data Pool for the removal process.

Service Cancellation

Services can be cancelled at any time via the Comms Portal or through your reseller partner.

  • No notice period required

  • The service is billed through to the 27th of the current billing cycle, regardless of when the cancellation is submitted

  • This applies to all cancellation types — voluntary cancellation, non-payment, port-out, and end of contract

  • No credit applies for unused days in the billing cycle

What Happens if Pool Data is Exhausted?

When the shared pool data reaches zero:

  • All services in the pool lose data access simultaneously

  • No excess usage charges apply

Options to restore data access:

  1. Apply a 10GB Pool Bolt-On via the Comms Portal (manual or via Auto Top-Up)

  2. Add more services to the pool to increase the total pool allowance

  3. Wait for the billing cycle to reset on the 28th

Frequently Asked Questions

Can services in a pool share data with each other?

Yes — all services in the pool draw from the same shared data allowance. The pool total is the sum of all services' plan data contributions.

Do pooling plans support data banking?

No. Pool data resets each billing cycle. There is no rollover or banking on pooling plans.

What happens when the pool runs out of data?

All services in the pool lose data access simultaneously. No excess charges apply. Apply a 10GB Pool Bolt-On via the Comms Portal, or wait for the billing cycle to reset on the 28th.

Why did my plan change not apply immediately?

Plan changes can only be submitted on the 27th of each month — this is a system restriction. The change is irreversible once submitted and takes effect from the 28th.

Can I undo a plan change after submitting?

No. Plan changes are irreversible once submitted — the carrier is charged immediately. If you need a change before the 27th, email helpdesk@commschannel.com.au with the subject "Plan Change (Service #)" instead of contacting your Account Manager — see How to Change a Plan on a CommsMobile 2.0 Service for the full process and billing impact.

Can I get a credit if I cancel a service mid-cycle?

No. Services are billed through to the 27th of the current billing cycle regardless of when the cancellation is submitted. This applies to all cancellation types — voluntary, non-payment, port-out, and end of contract.

What happens to pool data when a service leaves?

Any data the leaving service contributed to the pool is forfeited. The remaining services in the pool retain their existing data. The leaving service must move to a Standalone plan to receive its own individual allowance.

Can I mix Voice and Data Only services in the same pool?

Yes. Any combination of Voice and Data Only plans can coexist in a single pool.

How do I activate a roaming pack?

When a customer arrives in a supported destination, they receive a welcome SMS. They reply to that SMS to activate a travel pack — no portal login required.

Is there a limit on how many bolt-ons I can apply?

Yes — a maximum of 5 bolt-ons (10GB each) can be applied per billing cycle. This limit applies whether bolt-ons are added manually or via Auto Top-Up.

Are data-only services supported in a pool?

Yes. Data Only services can be added to a pool and contribute their data allowance. They cannot make voice calls, send SMS, or use international roaming.
