Yeastar Ring Group Setup
Published:
Overview
A ring group rings several extensions (or external numbers) for one incoming call, using a ring strategy you choose. It is the most common inbound destination for small and medium businesses.
Steps to Create a Ring Group
- Log in to the PBX web portal and go to Call Features > Ring Group.
- Click Add.
- Enter a Number (default range 6300–6399) and a Name.
- Select the Ring Strategy (see below) and set the Ring Timeout in seconds.
- In Members, add extensions, extension groups or external numbers.
- Set the Failover Destination for unanswered calls.
- Optionally set a No Extension Online Destination and time-based routing.
- Click Save and Apply.
- Point an inbound route at the ring group in Call Control > Inbound Route.
Ring Strategies
| Strategy | Behaviour | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Ring All | Rings all available members at once | Small teams where anyone can answer |
| Ring Sequentially | Rings members one at a time, in list order | Priority routing: first person on the list takes it |
| Memory Hunt | Rings the first member, then adds the next each timeout until all are ringing | Escalating cover: reception first, then the team |
| Custom | Each entry has its own ring delay (0–600 s) and ring timeout (1–600 s) | Complex cover with staggered start times |
Failover Destinations
Unanswered calls can go to: Hang up, Extension, Extension Voicemail, Group Voicemail, IVR, Call Flow, another Ring Group, a Queue, an External Number, or Play Prompt and Exit.
Key Notes
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| External numbers | Require an outbound route to those numbers; up to 100 per group |
| Call Confirmation | Makes external members press 1 to accept, so a mobile voicemail can't answer |
| Ring Timeout | Applies to Ring All, Ring Sequentially and Memory Hunt; Custom uses per-entry timers |
| Missed call alerts | Enable Record Missed Calls to log missed calls for members |
| Business hours | Time routing uses Call Control > Business Hours and Holidays |
