Telstra Retail Account Number Changes: Avoiding Porting Rejections
Published:
Overview
Some Telstra Retail mobile services are being rejected when porting into CommsMobile because the account number provided no longer matches Telstra's current billing records. This is most common for services that have moved from Telstra's legacy Flexcab platform to its newer MICA billing system, which can change the account number originally issued to the customer.
Steps to Confirm the Account Number Before Submitting a Port
- Call Telstra Retail on 13 22 00 and ask them to confirm the account number currently linked to the service being ported. Explain that the service is porting to another provider and you need the current port-out account number.
- Check My Telstra: sign in, then go to Profile → Your details → Personal details to view the Customer ID — this is the account number Telstra uses for porting.
- Where there's any doubt, ask the representative specifically for the latest port-out account number. Don't rely on an older invoice or a number used in a previous port request — Telstra's billing migration can make these outdated.
If a Port Is Rejected for an Incorrect Account Number
- Reconfirm the current account number with Telstra or via My Telstra.
- Check that the number submitted to CommsMobile matches Telstra's current records exactly.
- If needed, contact Telstra again and ask specifically for the account number required to port the service out.
- Resubmit the port request using the confirmed account number.
