Ordering New DIDs (Phone Numbers) – Information Required

Overview

This article explains the information required when requesting new DIDs (Direct Inward Dialing numbers) from CommsChannel. Providing all the details listed below ensures your order is processed quickly and your numbers are configured correctly on the desired service.

Step 1: Select the Type and Location of DIDs

When placing your DID order, please specify the following details:

Information Needed

Description / Example

Preferred Area Code or State

Example: NSW (02), VIC (03), QLD (07), SA (08), WA (08), TAS (03).

Specific City or Region (optional)

Example: Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane.

Quantity of Numbers Required

Single number, 10-number block, or custom quantity.

Sequential Numbers

Do you require sequential DIDs (e.g., 101–105)? Or are random numbers acceptable?

Type of DIDs

• GEO DIDs (Local Numbers) – Standard local business lines.
• Virtual Mobile Numbers – Used for SMS and voice applications.

SMS Requirement

If you need SMS functionality, please select Virtual Mobile Numbers.

Step 2: Define the Service Destination

Please confirm where you would like the new numbers to be routed once they are active.

Destination Type

Details Required

Existing Service

Indicate whether the new DIDs should be added to an existing SIP Trunk or Yeastar PBX service. Provide the service name or account ID if available.

New Service

Specify whether the numbers should be linked to a new SIP Trunk or a new Yeastar PBX instance.
• For SIP Trunk: mention if it will be Registration-based or IP-based.
• For Yeastar PBX: specify whether it’s Cloud Edition or On-Premises.

Example Order Request

Here’s an example of a complete DID order request:

Subject: Request for New DIDs

Details:

- Preferred Area Code: NSW (02)

- Quantity: 10 Numbers

- Sequential: Yes

- Type: GEO DIDs

- Service Destination: New SIP Trunk (Registration-based)

- SIP Trunk Name: “CommsChannel-Voice1”

Processing Time

Typical DID provisioning takes 1–2 business days, depending on area code availability and carrier assignment. Requests for sequential blocks or mobile DIDs may take slightly longer.

Before Submitting Your Request

To help us process your request smoothly:

  • • Ensure you specify area code, number type, and quantity.

  • • Confirm whether numbers should be added to an existing service or a new service.

  • • If linking to a new service, confirm SIP Trunk or Yeastar PBX type.
