CommsMobile Travel Packs 2.0: Options, Activation & Usage Rules

Published:

Overview

PAYG roaming is not available on CommsMobile 2.0 plans. International Roaming is enabled by default across all 2.0 services. When a customer's device connects to a roaming network overseas, they automatically receive a welcome SMS and can reply with a pack code to activate a travel pack.

Steps to Activate a Travel Pack

  1. Confirm the destination country is one of the 68 covered destinations (see Key Notes below).
  2. On arrival, once the device connects to an available roaming network, the welcome SMS is sent automatically, no setup required beforehand (Data Only plans are the exception: these have roaming disabled by default and can't receive the activation SMS).
  3. Reply to the welcome SMS with the relevant pack code: ROAM5 (7-Day Pack), ROAM10 (14-Day Pack), or ROAM3 (3-Day BizPack). SMS to 179 is toll-free and works from overseas.
  4. The pack is only charged once the customer generates their first roaming activity (call, SMS, or data). Receiving the welcome SMS does not trigger a charge.
  5. To check remaining balance or expiry at any time, SMS 'bal' to 179.
  6. If an allowance runs low mid-trip, reply to 179 with a new pack code to add another pack. Packs do not auto-renew; the customer must actively request a new one.

Troubleshooting: Travel Pack Not Working

If a customer isn't receiving the welcome SMS, can't connect to a roaming network, or their pack code isn't activating, work through these checks before escalating.

Not receiving the welcome SMS

  1. Confirm the destination is one of the 68 covered countries (see Key Notes above).
  2. Confirm the service isn't on a Data Only plan — these have roaming disabled by default and can't receive the activation SMS.
  3. Confirm Roaming is turned ON in the device settings.
  4. Restart the phone to force a fresh network registration.

No signal / not connecting to a roaming network

  1. Turn Airplane Mode ON, wait 10 seconds, then turn it OFF.
  2. Restart the device.
  3. Search for networks manually instead of automatically. On Android: Settings > Network & Internet > Mobile Network. On iOS: Settings > Mobile Data > Mobile Data Options > Network Selection, then turn off automatic selection.
  4. Remove and reinsert the SIM (or confirm the eSIM profile is active).
  5. Check for a recent SIM swap or plan change — either will cancel an active pack immediately.
  6. Test the SIM in another handset to rule out a device fault.

Pack code (ROAM5 / ROAM10 / ROAM3) not activating

  1. Confirm the SMS was sent to 179.
  2. Confirm the code was typed exactly as listed (e.g. ROAM5, not Roam 5).
  3. SMS 'bal' to 179 to check whether a pack is already active — only one pack can run at a time.

If none of the above resolves the issue, the customer should contact their CommsMobile provider for further assistance.
