CommsMobile Databank Transfer — 1.0 to 2.0 Migration Rules

Published:

Overview

Customers currently on CommsMobile 1.0 who have accumulated a databank balance can have that balance transferred to their new 2.0 service — provided the migration meets the eligibility criteria and occurs before the deadline.

Telstra will process databank transfers as a once-off batch during September 2026 for all eligible migrated services. Partners do not need to submit any request to Telstra — the transfer is automatic for eligible services.

⚠️ Deadline: services must be migrated to 2.0 before 1 September 2026. Any databank balance on services still on 1.0 after this date will be permanently lost.

Key Rules

  1. Migrate before 1 September 2026 — This is the hard cutoff. Telstra processes the batch transfer during September for services already on 2.0 by that date.

  2. Migrate to the same or higher data plan — The target 2.0 plan must have an equal or greater data allowance than the current 1.0 plan. See the eligibility matrix below.

  3. Standalone plans only — Databank does not exist on Pooling Plans 2.0. Any service migrated to a Pooling plan will lose its databank entirely.

  4. 50GB bonus at time of transfer — Telstra adds a one-off 50GB databank bonus to each eligible service at the time of transfer. This covers any data accumulation between the balance snapshot and the reload.

  5. Refer to your partner info pack — Marketing will share a full partner information pack with plan-specific migration details and recommended plan mappings.

Plan Migration Eligibility Matrix

The matrix below shows which 2.0 Standalone plans preserve the databank for each 1.0 plan. ✅ = databank transfers | ❌ = databank is lost.

Pooling Plans — Databank Not Transferable

CommsMobile 2.0 Pooling Plans do not support data banking. If a customer is migrated from a 1.0 plan to any 2.0 Pooling Plan, their accumulated databank balance cannot be transferred and will be lost.

Partners should confirm with customers whether they wish to preserve their databank before selecting a Pooling plan as the migration target.

What Partners Should Do

  1. Review customer databank balances now — Check which of your 1.0 customers have accumulated databank balances worth preserving.

  2. Confirm the target 2.0 plan is eligible — Use the matrix above to confirm the selected 2.0 plan will preserve the databank.

  3. Advise customers considering Pooling plans — Make sure they understand the databank cannot transfer to a Pooling plan.

  4. Complete migrations before 1 September 2026 — Once migrated, Telstra handles the balance transfer automatically during September. No further action is required from partners or customers.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if my customer is still on 1.0 after 1 September 2026?

Any databank balance on services still on 1.0 after 1 September 2026 will be permanently lost. Telstra's batch transfer runs once in September for services already migrated to 2.0. There is no second window.

Does the databank transfer happen automatically?

Yes. Once a service is migrated to an eligible 2.0 Standalone plan before September 1, Telstra processes the databank transfer automatically during September. Partners do not need to submit a request.

What is the 50GB bonus and why is it there?

Telstra takes a snapshot of databank balances at a point in time before the transfer. There may be a gap between that snapshot and when the balance is loaded onto the 2.0 service. The 50GB bonus is added to each eligible service to cover any data accumulated during that gap.

My customer wants to move to a Pooling plan — will they lose their databank?

Yes. CommsMobile 2.0 Pooling Plans do not support data banking. A customer migrating to a Pooling plan will lose their accumulated databank balance. Consider whether a 2.0 Standalone plan would better suit their needs, or ensure they understand and accept the databank loss before proceeding.

My customer is on 1.0 4G-M — which 2.0 plans preserve their databank?

The 2.0 5G-XXS (29GB) and above. Migrating to 2.0 4G-S (10GB) or 4G-M (15GB) will not transfer the databank. Refer to the eligibility matrix above.

My customer is on 1.0 5G-XL — which 2.0 plans preserve their databank?

The 2.0 5G-L (120GB), 5G-XL (150GB), or 5G-XXL (180GB). Migrating to any lower plan will not transfer the databank. Refer to the eligibility matrix above.

Is the databank deadline the same as the new sales cutoff?

No — these are two separate dates. New CommsMobile 1.0 sales stopped on 1 June 2026. The databank transfer deadline is 1 September 2026. Existing 1.0 customers can remain on 1.0 after June 2026, but their databank will be lost if they have not migrated to an eligible 2.0 plan before September 1.
