How to Gift Data Between Services in the Comms Portal

Overview

The Gift Data feature in the Advanced tab allows partners to transfer data allowance between two active mobile services directly from the Comms Portal. This is useful when one service has surplus data and another service needs a top-up, without purchasing an additional plan add-on.

Important: Data gifting is only supported on 1.0 platform plans. If the option is not functioning as expected, confirm both services are on 1.0 plans before proceeding.


Steps to Gift Data Between Services

  1. Log in to the Comms Portal and navigate to Services from the left-hand menu.
  2. Select the service that will receive the data (the Data Receiver Service). This is the most natural starting point as the current service is automatically pre-filled as the receiver.
  3. Click the Advanced tab from the service menu.
  4. Locate the Gift Data section on the left side of the screen.
  5. In the Data Amount (GB) field, enter the amount of data to transfer — for example, 5 for 5GB.
  6. Under Gift Direction, Get Data is selected by default — this means the current service will receive data from another service. The Data Receiver Service field will automatically populate with the current service and show a Current badge. This field is locked and cannot be changed.
  7. The system will begin validating the receiver service in the background. A Validating receiver service... indicator will appear briefly while this runs.
  8. Once validation is complete, click the Data Gifter Service dropdown to select the service that will donate the data.
  9. A dropdown panel will appear showing available services. Use the filter tabs to narrow the list:
    • All — Shows all services accessible to you
    • Partner’s only — Shows services across your partner account
    • Customer’s only — Shows services belonging to the same customer account as the receiver service
    You can also use the Search by phone or device name field to find a specific service quickly.
  10. Select the service you want to gift data from. The system will run a quick validation to confirm the selected service has sufficient data available. Once validated, a tick (✓) and a Selected badge will appear next to the service.
  11. Review the details — confirm the data amount, the gifter service, and the receiver service are all correct.
  12. Click the Gift Data button to complete the transfer.
  13. Navigate to the Activity tab on the service to confirm the data gift order has reached Complete status.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • 1.0 plans only: Data gifting is only supported on 1.0 platform plans. Services on 2.0 plans will not be eligible for gifting.
  • Get Data is the default direction: When you open the Gift Data section, Get Data is pre-selected. The current service is automatically locked in as the receiver. This is the recommended flow — start from the receiving service and select the gifter.
  • Sufficient data required: The system automatically validates whether the selected gifter service has enough data to cover the requested amount. If validation fails, select a different gifter service or reduce the data amount.
  • Transfer is immediate and irreversible: Once Gift Data is clicked, the transfer takes effect immediately and cannot be reversed.
  • Notifications: Both the gifting customer and the receiving customer will receive an SMS notification confirming the transfer, depending on how notifications are configured for their services.
  • Do not resubmit: If a gift data order is showing In Progress in the Activity tab, do not submit another request. Wait for it to reach Complete.
