Activating & Managing Travel Packs in the Comms Portal
Published:
Overview
The Travel Packs tab on any active mobile service in the Comms Portal allows partners to purchase, activate, or schedule international roaming packs for their customers. Two pack options are available — a 7 Day Travel Pack and a 14 Day Travel Pack — each covering data, calls, and SMS for use in eligible countries. Partners can also view the full history of past Travel Packs applied to a service from this tab.
Steps to Access & Use the Travel Packs Tab
- Log in to the Partner Portal and navigate to Services from the left-hand menu.
- Select the mobile service you want to manage.
- Click the Travel Packs tab from the service menu (alongside Overview, Usage, Features, Activity, and Advanced).
- The Travel Packs panel displays the two available pack options side by side. Review the inclusions for each pack before proceeding:
7 Day Travel Pack 14 Day Travel Pack Price $35.00 $54.00 Validity 7 days 14 days Data 5 GB 10 GB Calls 30 minutes 60 minutes SMS 30 SMS 60 SMS IDD Inclusion IR 67 IR 67 Type Bolt on Bolt on - To activate a pack immediately, click the Activate button on the pack of your choice. The pack will be applied to the service straight away and GSM roaming will be enabled automatically — do not manually enable roaming on the service.
- To activate a pack at a future date, click the Schedule button on the pack of your choice. Set the desired start date and end date. The pack will activate and deactivate automatically on the selected dates, regardless of the customer’s location.
- Before activating or scheduling, click the Guidelines button at the top right of the Travel Packs panel to review the full usage rules for Travel Packs.
- To view a history of all Travel Packs previously applied to the service, refer to the Travel Pack History panel on the right side of the screen. This table shows the Pack name, Activated date, Expired date, and Status for each historical pack.
Important Guidelines
The following rules apply to all Travel Packs. Partners must be familiar with these before activating or advising customers.
- Purchase Requirement: Travel Packs must be purchased exclusively through the Portal. They cannot be added via any other channel.
- Roaming Activation: GSM roaming on the service is enabled automatically once a Travel Pack is activated. Do not manually switch it on. However, the customer must ensure roaming is turned on within their device settings for the pack to function.
- One Pack at a Time: Only one Travel Pack can be active per service at any given time. Multiple packs cannot run simultaneously.
- Auto-Renewal on Usage: If any inclusion (Data, Call Minutes, or SMS) is fully consumed before expiry, the active Travel Pack will automatically renew and charges will apply. SMS notifications are sent to the customer at 50%, 85%, and 100% usage thresholds. Unused resources do not carry forward upon renewal — each renewal starts with a fresh allocation.
- Expiry & Renewal Timing: The Travel Pack expires at midnight on the day of expiry. If the customer is still roaming abroad at that point, the pack automatically renews.
- Billing Conditions: Charges only begin once the pack is actively used abroad with roaming enabled. Auto-renewal and billing stop once the service latches back to the Telstra Wholesale network in Australia, even if the pack technically remains active.
- Usage Monitoring: Customer consumption can be tracked through pre-rated Usage Detail Records (UDRs) via the Usage tab on the service.
- Pricing Policy: Custom pricing is not available for Travel Packs. Standard pre-rated charges apply.
- Activation SMS Delays: Travel Pack activation SMS notifications to the customer may be delayed, even though the pack is already active and in use on their device.
- Spend Notifications: The customer will receive an SMS notification each time their total roaming spend crosses a $100 threshold (e.g. $100, $200, $300) as a result of Travel Pack auto-renewals.
- Avoid SIM Swap & Plan Changes While Roaming: If a SIM swap or service plan change occurs while the customer is roaming with an active Travel Pack, the pack will stop working immediately. Standard roaming charges will apply unless a new pack is purchased — and in that case, unused resources from the old pack will not carry forward.
- Eligible Countries Only: Travel Packs are valid only in eligible destination countries. Standard international roaming rates apply in non-listed destinations, even if a Travel Pack is active.
- Scheduled Pack Deactivation: When a Travel Pack is purchased with a preset end date, it will automatically deactivate on that date regardless of the customer’s location. Roaming will also be turned off at that time to prevent unexpected charges.
